Austin Film Festival

More Than 100 Films to be Showcased at 2007 Event

By Danno Wise, About.com

Every October, Texas’ capital city plays host to the Austin Film Festival. This week-long event includes a four-day industry conference, film screenings, screenplay and film competitions, and more.

The festival takes place at two Austin hotels, the Driskill and the Stephen F. Austin. Screenings of films will occur at various theatres around Austin, including the IMAX and Texas Spirit Theater at the Bob Bullock Museum, Landmark Dobie Theater, The Hideout, Paramount Theatre, Stephen F. Austin Theater, Regal Arbor Theater, and Alamo DraftHouse Lake Creek.

Of course, for the general public, the film screenings are the main draw. The 2007 festival will showcase over 100 films. Those wishing to take in as many films as possible can purchase a “film pass” for $35.

Anyone wanting to get a “first glimpse” at a film may consider purchasing a badge, which gives them priority over pass and ticket holders during the screenings.

A “day badge” costs $95 and covers all film screenings plus Saturday’s panels. The “conference badge” costs $375 and buys access to all film screenings, all panels, the exhibit hall, and other functions such as ‘meet and greets,’ the opening party and wrap party. The $225 “weekend badge” gets the holder access to all film screenings, Saturday and Sunday’s panels and the wrap party. Students badges and a variety of other ticket combinations are also available.
